Minimal Language Skills (2000 – 2002)

The Minimal Language Skills project was a collaborative venture between Deafway and the Deaf Studies team at the University of Central Lancashire.   The project ran for two years, with support from the National Lottery Community Fund, and employed a mixed Deaf and hearing research team.  This project investigated a range of issues relating to communication and empowerment issues for the residents of Deafway.

The rationale for this project came from Deafway - they were concerned that a number of service users with minimal language skills were unable to fully participate in the regular review meetings.  The research looked critically at all aspects of review meetings and subsequently an evidence based model of good practice was developed.
